The American Medical Masks Standard is different from that of EU standard which is EN 14683: 2019 + AC: 2019. The American ASTM Standard covers testing and requirements for materials used in the construction of medical face masks that are used in providing healthcare services such as surgery and patient care.
The ASTM Medical Mask Standard Document provides for the classification of medical face mask material performance. Medical face mask material performance is based on testing for:
1, Bacterial filtration efficiency.
2, Differential pressure.
3, Sub-micron particulate filtration efficiency.
4, Resistance to penetration by synthetic blood
5, Flammability.
The ASTM Medical Masks Standard has requirements of Sub-micron particulate filtration efficiency, while EU Medical Masks under EN 14683: 2019 + AC: 2019 Standard do not have this requirement.
